At LANGTONS, our receipting team takes great care to inspect, describe, and photograph each bottle prior to listing it for auction. This inspection covers the wine’s fill level and colour, as well as the condition of the label, capsule, and seal. Any variations or imperfections are clearly detailed in our catalogue descriptions. Bottles that do not meet our standards are marked as having "No Commercial Value" and are either returned to their owners or responsibly disposed of.
While these checks give us confidence in the provenance and general condition of the lots we offer, it’s important to keep in mind that we cannot always determine how a bottle has been cellared, nor can we guarantee the contents, as each bottle evolves differently over time. As a result, LANGTONS is generally unable to offer refunds on auction purchases when the lot has been accurately described.
As with all auctions, buyers accept a degree of risk, particularly with older wines. We encourage you to make allowances for natural variations in ullage, as well as in the condition of corks, labels, and capsules—and this includes the potential quality of the wine itself.
For more information, please refer to section 20 of our Terms and Conditions. This section explains that certain consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law—including those relating to acceptable quality or fitness for purpose—do not apply to goods sold at auction.
