If you are registered for GST — for example, as a winery, retailer or business — there is one small but important step to attend to before your wines go to auction.
Why your GST status matters
Whether GST applies to the Hammer Price of your lots depends on your GST status:
- If you are not registered for GST, GST is generally not charged on the Hammer Price.
- If you are registered for GST, GST generally applies to the Hammer Price, and LANGTONS collects it on your behalf.
For how this appears to buyers, see GST on auction purchases.
What we need from you, and by when
If you are registered for GST, please supply LANGTONS with your ABN details, and confirm your GST status, at least 24 hours before the auction commences. This allows us to apply GST correctly and to issue accurate tax invoices.
You may provide your ABN details by:
- selecting the GST option in your Member account, or
- contacting our Auction team on 1300 946 347 or at auctions@langtons.com.au
It is your responsibility to keep this current
It is the Seller's responsibility to notify LANGTONS of GST status ahead of each auction. Please review your details before every sale, particularly if your registration status has changed.
Worth knowing
If you are unsure whether you are registered for GST, or how it applies to your sale, a brief conversation with our Auction team — or your own accountant — will set the position clearly.
