Our Terms and Conditions set the foundation for everything we do — your use of the LANGTONS websites, your purchases and sales, your bidding at auction, the wines we hold in our care, and the events to which you are invited.
By using LANGTONS, you agree to the Terms that apply to your account and your dealings with us. What follows is a plain-English summary of the essentials. For the complete legal text, please see the full Terms and Conditions on our website.
Who and what the Terms cover
The Terms apply to all:
- Members
- Buyers
- Sellers
- website users
They cover your dealings through:

Membership and your account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account and use LANGTONS services involving alcohol.
- Membership is required for most LANGTONS services, including buying, bidding and selling.
- You are responsible for keeping your account details accurate and current.
- Your account is personal and cannot be shared, transferred or used by another person.
- You may close your account at any time, subject to settling any outstanding matters and dealing with any wines we hold on your behalf.
Buying and bidding at auction
- A bid is an irrevocable offer to acquire the lot at that price. Please bid with intention.
- Your total purchase price is the Hammer Price plus the Buyer's Premium.
- Auction purchases are to be settled within 30 calendar days of the auction close.
- Some consumer guarantees apply differently to auction wines than to Wine Store or Client Services purchases — particularly for mature wines, where natural variation is part of the story.
- Bots, automated bidding, shill bidding, coordinated bidding and multiple accounts are not permitted. LANGTONS monitors for such activity and may void bids, cancel sales or suspend accounts where it occurs.
Pricing in the Wine Store and Client Services
- Prices may change without advance notice.
- The price displayed at checkout is the price you pay.
- Reductions applied after a purchase is complete — for example, as part of a sale — cannot be retrospectively refunded.
- Auction prices are not affected by this.
Payment and settlement
- Accepted methods include nominated credit card, bank transfer, BPAY and PayPal — with certain thresholds for auction purchases.
- Payment is generally taken at the point of sale for Wine Store, Private Sales and Client Services.
- Auction purchases up to $10,000 may be charged automatically to your nominated credit card; above $10,000, you will be invited to nominate your preferred method within four calendar days.
- Where an invoice remains unpaid beyond 30 days, LANGTONS may treat the matter as Buyer Default and recover reasonable costs, including interest at 2% above the 90-day Bank Bill Swap Rate.
Vouchers
- Vouchers may be applied to Wine Store purchases (main site), Client Services orders, and shipping charges for auction-won goods.
- Vouchers cannot be applied to the Hammer Price or Buyer's Premium at auction, or on our supplementary sites.
- Vouchers are personal, cannot be transferred, hold no cash value, and lapse at the end of their validity window.
Delivery, collection and storage
- Deliveries require a signature and proof of identity by default; unattended delivery may be selected at checkout.
- An "ID25" check applies: if the person receiving the delivery appears to be under 25, valid government-issued photo ID may be requested.
- Some postcodes are not serviceable, in line with state laws and Responsible Service of Alcohol obligations.
- Pick Up orders must be collected within 30 days. Uncollected orders may be returned to our warehouse, redirected at your cost, or (if fees remain unpaid) re-sold or disposed of.
- Storage fees may apply to auction purchases held in our care beyond the applicable shipping window.
- The optional Delivery Guarantee provides cover for loss or damage in transit; it does not cover heat damage or delivery made in accordance with your instructions.
Selling and consigning
- LANGTONS sells wines at auction on behalf of, and as agent for, Sellers.
- A Reserve may be set at or below the Low Estimate, subject to LANGTONS' approval where it sits higher.
- Where a lot fails to sell across successive auctions, the Reserve reduces over time — ultimately to $2 in an unreserved auction, and, if still unsold, classified as No Commercial Value.
- Sellers are paid the Hammer Price less Vendor Commission, generally within seven business days of the auction close.
- Sellers may not bid on their own lots.
Events
- Event tickets are refundable in full with 30 or more days' notice; 50% with 14 to 30 days' notice; and not refundable within 14 days.
- Booking and delivery fees are not refundable unless required by Australian Consumer Law.
- Photographs and video taken at LANGTONS events may be used by us and our related companies under a perpetual, royalty-free licence.
Content you share with us
- Reviews, photographs, tasting notes and other content you submit may be used by LANGTONS under a perpetual, royalty-free licence.
- You must own the content, or have all rights necessary to share it.
Use of our websites and data
- Our catalogues, valuations, price estimates and other content are the property of LANGTONS.
- Scraping, data mining or systematic harvesting of our content is not permitted — including for the training of artificial intelligence models or the operation of a competing service.
Privacy and communications
- Your personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Australian Privacy Principles.
- Marketing communications are opt-in and may be adjusted at any time. Service-based communications continue while your membership is active.
- Where you self-exclude online, the exclusion applies across LANGTONS, Dan Murphy's, BWS and other Endeavour retail brand online accounts.
If something doesn't go to plan
- Consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law cannot be excluded and apply regardless of anything set out in our Terms.
- Concerns can be raised through a three-step complaints process: first with our team, then formally in writing, then through good-faith discussion.
- You may contact regulators — including the ACCC, your State or Territory fair trading authority, and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner — at any time.
Events beyond our control
Where events outside anyone's reasonable control affect our ability to perform — natural disasters, pandemics, industrial action, utility failures, cyber-attacks and the like — the relevant obligations are paused and timeframes extended for the duration of the event.
Account suspension and termination
LANGTONS may suspend or terminate access where our Terms are materially breached — for example, in cases of suspected fraudulent activity, automated bidding or unresolved account verification. Where this occurs, we will be in touch with reasons and next steps. You may request a review at any time.
Updates to our Terms
Our Terms may change from time to time. Where they do, we will post advance notice on our website and/or, notify Members by service message. Continuing to use LANGTONS after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
