For collectors and prospective Sellers alike, a quiet sense of where a wine sits in the market is often the first step in any considered decision. The LANGTONS valuation tool offers exactly that — a window into current estimates for wines that have previously been listed or sold through LANGTONS.
It is, in essence, decades of auction history at your fingertips.
What the valuation tool offers
The valuation tool allows you to:
- search for wines previously listed or sold through LANGTONS
- view current market estimates drawn from our sales history
- explore across producers, vintages and formats
- bring a more informed eye to your own collection, or to a future acquisition
Whether you are weighing a sale, building a cellar, or simply curious about a bottle on your shelf, the tool offers a considered starting point.
Less is more — using the search function well
The tool is a powerful one, but it can be a touch temperamental. The single most useful habit is to keep your search terms simple.
A few principles that tend to work best:
- Start with the producer alone — for example, Penfolds, Henschke, Mount Mary
- Add the wine name only if needed — for example, Grange, Hill of Grace, Quintet
- Leave the vintage out at first — narrow only once you have results to refine
- Avoid punctuation, accents and abbreviations where you can
- Try a shorter form of the name if a longer one returns nothing
If a search returns no results, the answer is almost always to use fewer words rather than more.
Reading the results
Each result reflects the wine's history through LANGTONS — including previous sale prices and current estimates where available. A few things to keep in mind as you read:
- estimates are guides, not guaranteed outcomes
- older sales may reflect different market conditions
- condition, provenance and format all shape final value
- a wine not in the database is not necessarily without value — it simply may not have passed through LANGTONS

Worth knowing
Estimates within the tool are drawn from market history and offered as a guide only. Final outcomes depend on physical inspection of the wines and prevailing market conditions at the time of sale.
If the tool isn't behaving
The valuation tool is comprehensive, but on occasion it can be a touch unpredictable — a search may not return what you expect, or the results may not load as they should. If this happens, please don't persevere alone.
Our Auction team is glad to help. Share your enquiry through the Auction contact form, email auctions@langtons.com.au, or call us on 1300 946 347 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm AET. A brief conversation will often achieve in a moment what the tool can sometimes take longer to settle.
If you would like a formal valuation
The valuation tool offers a considered look at market estimates — but it is not a substitute for a formal valuation, particularly where wines are being considered for sale, insurance, probate or family settlement. For that, a conversation with our specialists is the natural next step.
