At LANGTONS, we believe the cost of buying and selling fine wine should be as clear as the wines themselves. This article gathers, in one place, the fees you may encounter — whether you are acquiring at auction, releasing a cellar, or having your wines delivered or held in our care.
All fees are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable. Fees are current at the time of writing and may be updated from time to time; the figures published on our website at the point of your transaction are the ones that apply.
For Buyers

Buyer's Premium
18% of the Hammer Price (inc. GST)
Added to every successful auction bid. Your Total Purchase Price is the Hammer Price plus the Buyer's Premium.
GST on the Hammer Price
10%, where applicable
Only where the Seller is registered for GST (for example, a winery or business). Made clear in the lot listing. See GST on auction purchases.
A worked example, for a lot won at $1,000 with no GST on the hammer: Hammer Price $1,000 + Buyer's Premium $180 = Total Purchase Price $1,180.

A few things worth knowing
GST. The Buyer's Premium, Vendor Commission, freight, Delivery Guarantee and Storage fees all include GST. GST applies to the Hammer Price only where the Seller is GST-registered.
Vouchers. Where a Voucher applies, it does not change the calculation of the Buyer's Premium or Vendor Commission, and it cannot be applied to the Total Purchase Price at auction, the Delivery Guarantee fee, Storage fees or Disposal fees. See Vouchers and how to use them.
Events. Event tickets carry their own refund arrangements, and booking and delivery fees are not refundable unless required by the Australian Consumer Law. See LANGTONS events: your booking.
Change-of-mind returns. Delivery fees are not refunded on a change-of-mind return, and you bear the cost of returning the goods. See Change-of-mind returns.
Worth knowing
If you would welcome a clear picture of the fees on a particular purchase or sale before you commit, our Customer Experience team — or your Private Client Manager — is glad to walk you through it.
